Cantine del Notaio is situated in Rionero in Vulture, the green heart of Basilicata, at the foot of Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano. The winery was founded in 1998 by Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti carrying on a family tradition. He is a great expert of Aglianico, the most important grape of southern Italy, that finds its highest expression in the volcanic soils of the Vulture.
In the most important districts of the territory, where the volcanic tuffs “milk” the plant during the summer drought, the grapes are grown according to organic and biodynamic criteria, inspired by the utmost respect for the natural “vitality” of the soil.
The winery has always aimed through hard work and research to explore the whole potentiality of this grape, with which it produces not only red wines, but also a rosé wine, a white wine and a sparkling wine, whose names are linked to the notarial activity of Giuratrabocchetti family.
The ancient tuff grottoes dated back to 1600, once property of the Franciscan monks, guarantee excellent conditions for the ageing of wines, for a total production of a little more than 150,000 bottles. The grapes of Aglianico are harvested in different times in order to obtain diverse wines from the same grape.
