In Camignone, in the heart of Franciacorta a wonderful region of gentle moraine hills south of Lago d’Iseo (Lombardy) , lies the historic residence with its 16th-century wine cellars and adjacent properties that witness the centuries-old winemaking tradition that the Barboglio family inherited in 1836.
This winemaking wealth was further developed through the farsighted efforts of Emanuela Barboglio, who planted the first modern, specialized vineyards and in 1968 was one of the first to produce DOC Franciacorta sparkling wine. In 1976 the name of the winery was changed from Azienda Agricola Barzanò Barboglio to the current “il Mosnel,” a local dialect word of Celtic origin that means “rock pile” on which the winery was founded.
The fifth generation of winegrowers is nowadays directing il Mosnel: Giulio and Lucia Barzanò, the children of Emanuela Barboglio. They are supported by an highly professional staff, expert agronomists, and experienced winemaking technicians. All of them pay constantly attention to the production process and to the winery’s growth.
The winery produces mainly Franciacorta DOCG metodo classico sparkling wines (second fermentation in bottle) obtained by grapes such as Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc or Pinot Noir: Brut, Brut Rosé, Pas Dosé, Millesime Brut Saten . Then there also still wines Curtefranca white and red (obtained by Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, Merlot, Nebbiolo and Barbera). Not to forget a dessert wine Passito “Sulif” IGT Sebino.
In 2011 Pas D0sé Riserva “QdE” 2004 was awarded with 3 Glasses by Gambero Rosso Guide and 5 grappoli by AIS.
